Aluminum drop bottom ovens

Revolutionize Aluminum Heat Treating

Experience superior aluminum solution heat treating with Pyradia’s advanced line of Drop Bottom Ovens. Our state-of-the-art insulation, control system, hoist mechanism, and mobile quench tanks ensure unmatched performance and reliability, setting a new standard in the industry.

Optimal Temperature Control and Efficiency in Every Drop Bottom Oven

Our electric drop bottom oven models feature evenly distributed low- density tubular heating elements for optimal heat transfer. While our gas models boast indirect fired burners with heat recuperation, ensuring over 70% energy efficiency.

Our high-efficiency fans deliver powerful vertical airflow, achieving precise temperature uniformity of +/- 5°F (+/- 3°C) throughout the working area. With these exceptional performances, our aluminum solution heat treating ovens and quench tanks surpass even the strictest military and aeronautical standards such as the AMS. Plus, they’re versatile, suitable for aluminum aging at lower temperatures.

Robust Design

Our drop bottom ovens are built to withstand intensive and continuous use, reaching temperatures of up to 1,200°F (650°C). Automated loading and quenching systems, managed by PLC, ensure precise control. With a VFD controlled electro-mechanical winch system, the load descent is carefully regulated, enabling rapid quenching in as little as 5 seconds.

Efficient Insulation and Quiet Operation

Our drop bottom ovens feature 6″(15 cm) ceramic fiber module insulation, minimizing heat loss and enabling rapid heat cycling for optimal energyefficiency. This durable design requires minimal maintenance, ensuring long-lasting performance. Additionally, our drop bottom series oven operates quietly, with noise levels below 85 dB, creating a conducive work environment

    Frequently asked questions

What is an aluminum solution heat treating oven used for?

A solution heat treating oven heats aluminum to a controlled temperature to change its metallurgical structure. Followed by a quench and natural (T4) or artificial (T6) aging, this treatment improves its mechanical strength and hardness.

Why vertical loading with a drop bottom?

The drop bottom allows a rapid quench that keeps the alloying elements in supersaturated solid solution, preventing premature precipitation and ensuring the required mechanical properties after aging, particularly hardness and strength.

What temperature range does it cover?

For aerospace applications, aluminum solution heat treating is typically performed between 460°C and 540°C, depending on the alloy. The ovens must provide excellent temperature uniformity (±3°C to ±6°C), meet AMS 2750 requirements and allow a rapid quench to achieve the required T4 or T6 mechanical properties.

    Which industries is it for?

Mainly aerospace, and high-performance aluminum parts that require tightly controlled T4/T6 treatments.

Are these ovens AMS 2750 compliant?

Yes, they are designed to meet the AMS 2750 pyrometry requirements common in aerospace.
